A lot of people tell me that they are interested to learn Feng Shui but are not sure how or where to start. In my opinion you can pick up a lot by reading a feng Shui books or books but for the serious enthusiast there is not substitute for attending Feng Shui classes conducted by authentic Feng Shui practitioners.
There are many reasons. For starters, many of the more advanced theories and applications are still not available in English publications (at least not yet). For example, I have not come across any English publication that explains in detail theory and application of the rings found in standard Chinese Feng Shui compasses.
As you try to pick up of the subject you will come across ‘grey’ areas where you will need clarification from an experience trainer or practitioner. For example, we know that it is not healthy for a home to be located close to high tension cables. But how close is too close? Then is it also very easy to get confused over a seemingly simple concept like house facing and door facing!
Despite the above, Feng Shui books are a great way to be introduced to the subject. If you are a beginner and wish to get a good introduction into the subject, I would recommend the Feng Shui book, “The Idiot’s Guide to Feng Shui”, by Joseph Yu. You will learn the basis of classical Feng Shui plus a solid introduction to the Eight Mansions and Flying Star System of Feng Shui.
If you wish to learn more about the Flying Star System, I would recommend, “Flying Star Feng Shui” by Steven Skinner as a continuing text.
Recently, I came across another Feng Shui book which contains valuable information for the more serious enthusiast. It is called, “The Art and Science of Feng Shui” by Henry B Lin. This is a also must read.
Finally, if you just want to know what to look out for when buying a house, you can download my FREE Feng Shui book free download (ebook actually!), “What you absolutely must know before you buy a house?”
